About the Role

Our seasonal staff play a vital role in managing our information booth, and facilitating the various supplemental nutrition programs at our farmers markets. These positions provide an opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the intersection of nutrition, agriculture, and community outreach. Staff engages with market shoppers and vendors to provide customer service, address inquiries, resolve issues & foster a welcoming environment. The candidate must be a self-starter, interested in community work, and willing to work in an outdoor market setting. Knowledge of Spanish, Arabic or Russian is helpful but not required. We are looking for someone who is passionate about nutrition and interested in creating healthier and more inclusive food systems.
Time:
70% administrating our SNAP, DUFB & SFMNP supplemental nutrition program, including running EBT cards, data entry per DHHS guidelines
10% Set up and breakdown of information booth, involves moving and setting up tables, carts & tent
10% Helping vendors and customers with questions or concerns
10% Administering POP children’s program
Responsibilities:
- Attend each farmers market for the season (Murray: Fridays and Saturdays from 7-2, July 25th -October 25th, South Jordan: Saturdays 7-2, August 9th - October 11th)
- Educate customers about the benefits of the supplemental nutrition programs and assist them in understanding the process of redeeming benefits
- Collaborate with market vendors to ensure their compliance with the program and provide support if necessary.
- Stall set up & breakdown
- Process SNAP transactions via card reader
- Distribute SNAP and DUFB tokens, SFMNP vouchers
- Maintain accurate records of customer redemptions, snap transactions, and vendor reimbursements to ensure compliance with DHHS and UDAF
- Assist with data collection during market hours, including headcounts and surveys

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with diverse populations
- Comfortable working in an outdoor market environment
